Lee Kerwin was born Shirley Ann Good on February 10, 1933, in Danville Pennsylvania, the daughter of George David and Phyllis (Beyers) Good. She was the youngest of three, with brother Charles and sister Georgia. Having adopted her nickname in high school, Lee earned her R.N. degree in 1951 from the Geisinger Medical Center School of Nursing in Danville. While serving as a nursing supervisor at Passavant Memorial Hospital in Chicago, she met a medical student, Joe Kerwin. They were married in Danville in 1960. After accompanying Joe's Navy tours at Cherry Point NC, Pensacola FL, Beeville TX, Virginia Beach VA, and Jacksonville FL, they moved to Houston, Texas in 1965. Lee and Joe were blessed with three daughters, Sharon, Joanna, and Kristina. Lee had a strong interest in better nursing care for the elderly and obtained a master's degree in geropsychiatric nursing at Texas Women's University. She worked at the Turner Geriatric Center in Galveston, Texas, for several years, starting its first Alzheimer's unit. After an interlude caring for her mother, she switched careers and opened a maternity clothing store, Small Miracles Maternity, in Houston, later adding an infant clothing store, For Moms and Miracles. Lee was a gifted artist and memorialized family milestones in oil and canvas. For many years her paintings of the Holy Family with the growing grandsons illustrated her Christmas Cards. Lee was always an active member in her church, serving in multiple volunteer capacities at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, and later at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bryan, Texas. She died in 2021 in LaGrange Illinois, having courageously endured multiple illnesses and spread love among her caregivers. She is survived by her husband Joe, daughters Sharon Kerwin, Joanna Kerwin, and Kristina Dougherty, son-in-law Joe Dougherty and six grandsons, Christopher, Joel Anthony, Brendan and Joshua White, and Patrick Dougherty.
